Counselling gives you time and space to talk about the difficulties you are experiencing with someone who is trustworthy and independent of family and friends. My task is to provide you with a warm, confidential, non-judgmental experience where you feel at ease to explore the issues that are troubling you.

Expressing your hurt, confusion or anxiety can be enormously relieving in itself. However it also offers the possibility of growth. Seeing the difficulty in the open can allow you to genuinely accept where you are and move on to make choices and changes.

You set the pace

Counselling practice is founded on the belief that positive, long-lasting change is achieved when you lead it. This is also my personal experience. As your counsellor, I believe you are the expert on your experience and that my job is not to advise or tell you what to do. This might be hard to hear if you are very distressed and understandably crave certainty. However, it can also be liberating. Making decisions about how you want to be in your life in a counselling relationship where you are valued and understood is powerful.

Some of the issues I work with include:

  • Depression and low mood
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Grief and loss
  • Trauma and abuse
  • Low self-esteem
  • Panic attacks
  • Transforming anger
  • Family and relationship issues
  • Sexuality
  • Gender identity
  • Dissociation and hearing voices
  • Self-harm

What type of therapy do you offer?

At the core of my practice, I am a person-centred practitioner, working with people on their present-day experience of themselves and in relationship with others. I am also trained in psychodynamic counselling practice and enjoy working in this way too. For example, you may choose to examine earlier relationships or it may become clear that early relationship patterns are limiting your present-day interactions. My role there would be to support you as you reflect on how those previous relationship experiences are playing out to help you find what you need now.

Face-to-face or telephone counselling

I work with adults of all ages in my private practice. I see people face-to-face in Edinburgh on Wednesdays from a dedicated counselling room in Bruntsfield Chiropractic Clinic. I work from a counselling room in Cockenzie Business Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays and offer telephone counselling on other days via a private, local rate telephone number.
